Armadale Reptile & Wildlife Centre

Rescue & Rehabilitation

snakesRescue: The Reptile Centre rescues all types of wildlife, but specializes in reptiles and marsupials. We also have a list of other reptile removalists that may be able to assist, if we cannot.

If a snake is sighted in the house, it is important that you watch it from a safe distance. Once a snake has disappeared, it is very difficult to know exactly where it has gone.

Rescue & Rehabilitation

Hint: sprinkle talc, flour or sand either side of the doorways or along the wall area and leave an outer door open. You can sometimes see from the tracks left that it has gone to the outside.

Backyard: Many snakes are sighted in backyards, especially following fence lines in an attempt to try to find its way out. Keep an eye on the reptile, and if possible get someone else to ring for assistance. If you cannot do this, then ensure all pets are inside, keep watching from a safe distance. The reptile will either find a safe place to hide, (then it can be removed by a professional) or find its way out and disappear.

For further assistance or information, please contact the Armadale Reptile Centre.

snake rehabilitationRehabilitation: The Centre has a number of reptiles and other wildlife that come in either injured or are very young and found by the Public.

We have a hospital area that houses these animals until they have recovered or grown up to the point of release.

Bobtails and other reptiles are commonly injured by vehicles, dogs, cats, lawnmowers, whippersnippers and bushfires. If a reptile has been severely injured then seek veterinary attention immediately.

Snakes are frequently injured by humans, cats (juvenile reptiles), dogs and run over by vehicles. We have also rescued snakes with their heads stuck in aluminium cans. Please do not throw rubbish on the sides of the roads.

Birds (incl nocturnal) are commonly found on the side of the road after either being hit by a car or sometimes a juvenile on its first flight.

Those animals that can be released are assessed and suitable release, safe areas are found while animals with permanent injuries are kept at the Centre and utilized in our education programme.

Reptile Awareness Courses/Consultation

The Centre does run In House awareness courses and also will visit remote areas to assist Environmental officers in the correct capture methods of nuisance reptiles and identification of reptiles found in their areas.
